Saru Jayaraman, the author of Behind the Kitchen Door: What Every Diner Should Know About the People Who Feed You will speak at a free author event at the Philadelphia Free Library on Tuesday, February 19th at 6:00 pm.
According to the publisher, “Blending personal narrative and investigative journalism, Jayaraman shows us that the quality of the food that arrives at our restaurant tables depends not only on the sourcing of the ingredients. Our meals benefit from the attention and skill of the people who chop, grill, sauté, and serve. Behind the Kitchen Door is a groundbreaking exploration of the political, economic, and moral implications of dining out.”
This book has been selected as the first book in a newly formed First Unitarian Food Justice Book Group and the author event is a great chance to hear first-hand about the author's experiences and perspectives on the issue of restaurant workers rights.
