Spiritual & Financial Abundance
Spiritual & Financial Abundance
Course Description: What do the latest financial thinking and ancient spiritual teachings reveal to us about financial freedom? Top finanical advisor, Brent Kessel, insists financial success and security is "not about the money." Rather, it's about what's inside us - first understanding your emotional relationship to money, and only then taking action. It's Not About the Money expertly and compassionately guides you along the path to financial security and true peace of mind. Facilitator: Rev. Nate Walker
Course first offered: March 2009
October 2009 Class: Nate, Eva, Joan, Richard and Lynn

Thank you Brent for developing and describing 8 different character types. Not only was it fun to take a quiz and read about my results, but it helped me to realize just how much of a stronghold my archetype plays in my life, not only with how I manage my money, but also with how these actions affect relationships around me. I enjoyed realizing how my current views and values I place on money reflects my parent’s attitude towards money. By understanding how I became the character type(s) I am today will help me to make more informed decisions tomorrow. I hope to become a more balanced individual both with regards to my approach towards money and my life. |

First, my brief review of the class: As a former high school teacher and a person committed to life long learning,"THIS IS A CLASS NOT TO BE MISSED!" I highly recommend the Spiritual and Financial Abundance class to everyone who wants to learn about a more balanced spiritual approach to the way one relates to money. Learning about the Wanting Mind and discovering one's own dominant financial archetypes are the beginning of the spiritual work that is needed to "make the gradual moves in the direction of the archetypes we are most avoiding" so we can "create a more balanced and fulfilling life." (B. Kessel, it's not about the money, p. 166). For me the joys of the class were the people in the group and the realization that my participation in the class provides me with the knowledge I need to continue the long-term work to integrate book knowledge into my life so that I can have a healthier and happier relationship to money and to life. An added plus is that Rev. Nate is an excellent listener and facilitator. |

Thank you, Brent Kessel, for helping me experience money in such a way that could look at and past my habits and emotions, and hear my heart loudly and clearly. Thank you, too, for a framework that spills over to help me look at other aspects of my life, too, like the way I think about time as a resource. |

Prior to taking this class and reading Brent Kessel’s book, I never would have thought there could be so much overlap between something most people consider pretty nuts-and-bolts – money and personal finance – and the inner depths of spirituality and well-being. Like probably most people, I viewed money as a fact of life existing purely on paper: in my check book, on my bills, in my wallet. This class and Brent’s book revealed the true extent of my personal connection to money; how I relate to, and what I believe about money; and how my beliefs about money impact my relationship to other people, the world around me, and my own sense of self. Awareness of these “new” relationships – always there but unexamined until now – has empowered me to be more generous with my own money, appreciate and respect people with different money “types” in a new way, and opened a new avenue for dialogue about money and my life. |

I am grateful for the opportunity to explore and take control of my relationship with money. Brent Kessel's book put into words the habits and feelings about money that I have had for years and years but have been unable to really see and articulate. His book has also provided me with real, practical strategies I can implement to take on my assumptions about money and break my cycle of anxiety around money. |

You [Brent Kessel] gave me interesting and organized ways of describing people regarding their attitudes toward money and of seeing how my attitudes toward money follow patterns which at times may upset me unnecessarily. You offered me an organized way of looking at situations involving money from different perspectives, some of which may be more useful to me than my own. |

Taking the It's Not About the Money course with my wife, has left me with a new awareness about not only myself financially, but my partner's archetype as well as my own. She's "The Innocent" and I'm "The Guardian". It also made me realize that maybe I should rethink my relationship with money. So now I try to take what I have learned from the course, and remember that it is not always about the money. Brent Kessel's book It Not About the Money, has been a tremendous help and tool to achieving my spiritual and financial abundance. Even though I have a long way to go, I hope to one day achieve this goal. |

I never had what you would call a love affair with money. My mom was "The Star" and brought me up the same way. My wife is "The Guardian" not a financial marriage made in heaven, as I am "The Innocent." Although we have a long way to travel to finding a complete understanding and love affair with money, Brent Kessel's book It's Not About the Money, has given us a light to follow at the end of a dark tunnel. We're hoping that in following that light, we will find our way out of the debt darkness and into the light.

Thank you [Brent Kessel] for your book, It's Not About the Money. I found so many of the concepts and exercises worthwhile. One concept that had a significant impact on my life was the "core story." Through learning about the underlying beliefs that have continued to influence my financial decisions, I have been able to break old patterns and approach decision-making with greater awareness and balance. As for the exercises, I found them to be extremely useful in a group setting. By hearing from my fellow classmates, I came to understand the concepts more deeply. I will continue to use your book as a guide on my journey to spiritual and financial abundance.
To those of you considering taking this course, I highly recommend it! You gain a lot more from participating in the course than from reading the book alone.
