Newcomer's Corner. Following each Sunday service, we invite newcomers to stop by the Newcomer Corner for refreshments and conversation. It is located at the round table in the southwest corner of the Sanctuary, near the Chestnut Street entrance. If you are interested in learning more about Unitarian Universalism please join us for the following orientation.
Orientation: Unitarian Universalism & You!
Join us for brunch on the first Sundays of every month in 2008
January 6, February 3, March 2, April 6, May 4, June 1 from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm
On the first Sunday of every month we welcome visitors to an orientation to Unitarian Universalism – a living tradition built on dismantling oppressive systems. We will explore how our faith community has worked for justice for hundreds of years, from advocating for free speech and the free practice of religion as far back as the fifteen hundreds to helping to abolish slavery and ordaining women as early as the the eighteen hundreds. We will discuss how we currently work for justice today, from protecting our environment to standing up for bisexual, gay, lesbian, and transgender people. You’ll hear from parents and their children’s experience in religious education as well as church leaders about their involvement in healing Philadelphia’s patterns of violence, racism, and homelessness.
Architectural Tours. Meet at the back of the Sanctuary immediately following the morning service for a half-hour tour of our landmark building. Learn about First Church's architecture, stained glass, and building use throughout its history. These are hosted at least once a month.
Membership: After attending UU & You, you are invited to participate in the New Member Ceremony, which is held on the second Sunday of every month during the 11 am morning worship. Confirm your participation by contacting the church office.
Our Newsletter. Be sure to pick up a copy of our monthly newsletter, the Beacon - it can also be read online. The Beacon contains news and schedules of all church meetings and events.
