The Young Adult Ministry Team is an extension of First Church’s larger ministry. As young adults, we support each other in our searches for truth and meaning in our lives, seeking to manifest love and compassion in our community and the world-at-large.
We will articulate a covenant so that we may hold ourselves accountable.
We will encourage young adult participation in the life of the larger church. We will encourage young adults to become pledging members of the congregation. We will also pursue relationships with committees of the church for the benefit of our mutual efforts.
We will offer at least one worship service each month. These services will draw from the breadth and depth of Unitarian Universalism’s living tradition and will experiment with a range of worship styles. Through our worship services, we intend to promote community and spiritual growth.
We will organize at least one social action opportunity in the first half of 2008 that will be open to all at First Church. This opportunity will explicitly uplift and affirm social action as an imperative of Unitarian Universalism. We will also encourage young adult participation in other social justice opportunities undertaken by First Church and advertise these though young adult communication channels as appropriate.
We will develop relationships with young adults and young adult groups at churches in the Delaware Valley and southern New Jersey. This is to foster a larger community of Unitarian Universalists. Through these relationships, we hope to combine efforts on social justice activities and to deepen our Unitarian Universalist faith through joint worship and learning opportunities.
We will sponsor an intergenerational dance to occur by June 2008. We hope this event will become a tradition of the church.
We will invite the minister and board of trustees to engage in a conversation to determine the level of congregational commitment to campus ministry and work with the appropriate entities for the establishment of a campus ministry team, if there is sufficient interest and commitment.
We will host a regional conference for young adults at First Church with a tentative theme of “Work/Life Balance” in either fall 2008 or winter 2009.
We will recruit members for the Young Adult Ministry Team, raising membership to an optimal six to eight members.
