iMembers

We are thrilled to introduce a new classification of membership with the First Unitarian Church of Philadelphia: iMembers - individuals who offer a $10 monthly donation to participate in our community through this social networking media. Aware people enrolled in this program come from around the globe, our ultimate goals is to use platform to help connect iMembers to:

• Local Congregations in their area, which may include attracting area visitors to visit one of the 12 UU congregations within a 25 mile radius of Philadelphia;

• Online Communities such as the Church of the Larger Fellowship, the Church of the Younger Fellowship, Second Life; and to

• Social Justice Initiatives, such as Standing on the Side of Love, UU Service Committee, UU United Nations Office, and the UU PA Legislative Advocacy Network.

1. Connecting. Our social networking platform will connect iMembers to local congregations, online UU communities. Outcome: a deeper sense of being a part of a dynamic and vibrant religious movement.

2. Exploring. A monthly email will summarize the various multi-media presentations  (videos, podcasts, forums, etc...) and invite iMembers to post their comments for future discussions. Outcome: a deeper understanding about  the human condition and matters important to religious liberals.

3. Conversation. In addition to the written and video blogs, Rev. Nate will host a quarterly Video Conference that will allow iMembers to "talk-back" about various content presented online. Outcome: a more intimate relationship  with one another and a deeper understanding of the issues at hand.

4. Learning. In addition to connecting iMembers to online courses offered by the Church of the Larger Fellowship, various online courses will be offered by 1stU Philly. Outcome: a stronger sense of one's UU identity, belief system and spiritual practices. 

5. Caring. The iCare team will moderate the Joys & Concerns blog and connect iMembers to local pastoral care resources through local congregations. Outcomes: compassion, empathy, concern for others and to practice self-care. 

6. Voting. All iMembers will be invited to live our 5th principle on democracy by participating in the decision making process about future iMinistry initiatives. Outcome: shared knowledge, shared values, shared responsibility. 

7. Acting. The iJustice team will harness social media platforms to help iMembers engage in social justice initiatives, such as letter writing, phone banking, demonstrations, and other organizing. Outcome: prophetic witness to the social injustices of our time.
