Board of Trustees Update: We're digging in!

Now that the outside world is finally (finally!) thawing, we’re feeling inspired by fresh air and new growth. As we plan for new leaders being elected at the Annual Meeting on May 17, we’re asking our entire congregation to roll up their sleeves and find a way to dig in.

At this month’s Board meeting on March 25, we took inspiration from a quote from Dan Hotchkiss, whose work on church governance is one of our…

Board of Trustees Update: We need YOUR input!

Spring is always a busy season at our church, and we need YOUR input as we move through this exciting time.

The Nominating Committee has begun the important work of identifying a slate of individuals to serve on the Board of Trustees and the Nominating Committee for the 20152016 church year.  If you're interested in learning more about these opportunities or would like to suggest prospective candidates, please speak with a member of the…

Belonging, Any Way You Want

We talk a lot in our church about doing things “together,” about being “in community” with each other. We celebrate those who join, and we honor those who have stayed. We are a community, a congregation, and we make shared decisions based on our shared values in our shared home.

We don’t talk as much about what it really means to belong on a day-to-day, person-to-person basis. Belonging to this Unitarian Universalist church isn’t like belonging anywhere else—because of the…

The Interim Opportunity: Preparing for Our Interim Ministerial Search

As we prepare for Reverend Nate's departure in July 2014, our church is in a time of transition. For some of us, this may be a time of anxiety--change can be nerve-wracking and even scary. Others among us may be exhilarated, ready for the energy and optimism that accompanies starting on a new course with a clean slate.

Many of us discussed this transition at today's Board info session on the ministerial transition. What follows is a recap of the materials presented, along…

Stewardship Update: Week Seven

With 4 days left in our Stewardship Campaign, we're starting to see some real progress: together, we've pledged more than $140,000 towards our 2013–2014 church year.

Almost a third of that amount was pledged in the past week alone: a generous anonymous donor promised to pledge $100 for every new pledge that came in between March 10 and March 16. Galvanized by this offer, 53 people submitted their pledge cards last week, committing a…

Stewardship Update: Week Six

As of Friday, March 10, we've collectively pledged $91,695 towards our 2013–2014 church year. We still have a ways to go to reach our $200,000 goal by Sunday, March 24, but more than one hundred members of our church family have yet to pledge. We can do it!

An anonymous donor has promised to pledge $100 for every new pledge that comes in before 4 PM on Saturday, March 16. In other words, your pledge--of any amount!--will automatically…

Stewardship Update: Week Five

Just like the tiny cuttings that have flourished in Rachel's windowless office, we know that our community can do great things even in adversity. As we welcome back Reverend Nate for the final seventeen months of his tenure, let's commit to pledging $200,000 together for the 2013–2014 church year.

With just three weeks left in our Stewardship Campaign, more than a quarter of our members and friends have together pledged $75,507. If you haven't yet pledged, you're not…

Stewardship Update: Week Four

Sunday, February 24 was the official halfway point of our eight-week Stewardship Campaign, so we're getting ready to race to the finish. As of this Sunday, we'd collectively pledged $61,821 towards the 2013–2014 church year--almost a third of the way to our $200,000 goal!

We know that an eight-week Stewardship Campaign is a long campaign, with plenty of time to misplace your pledge card. Fear not--there are always extra pledge cards…

Stewardship Update: Week Three

The week of Valentine's Day is a perfect time to be thinking about commitment, and as of Sunday, February 17, we're well on our way in our commitment to make our church strong and vibrant for the coming year.

So far, we've collectively pledged $50,321. This is one-quarter of the way to our $200,000 goal! Better yet, we've reached this number with fewer than a quarter of our church's pledging units--so if the average pledge stays the same, we're…
