Property Working Group Presents: ADA Compliance for Historic Churches
Sunday, January 22, 5:00 PM, Parish Room
In the first of a series, the Property Working Group of the First Unitarian Church, in conjunction with Partners for Sacred Places, is sponsoring a talk by noted architect and Philadelphia Historic Commission Chair, Robert Thomas AIA. Mr. Thomas will be discussing ADA compliance issues, especially as they relate to historic churches. What types of options are available to reach a high level of compliance? What sort of work-arounds are available for historic properties? ADA compliance involves more than just mobility - are there options for the hearing and sight impaired that should be considered? Are there new technologies that make ADA compliance better and easier? This program is part of a series of talks aimed a congregants who are interested in the stewardship of church properties. All members of the First Unitarian church are invited, and Partners for Sacred places will be inviting other area congregation’s property committee members to join as well. Other lectures being planned are on the topics of lighting design, stained glass repair and maintenance, structural issues, masonry and more. There is no cost for these lectures.
