Event Description

Music Sunday - Extraordinary Music

Sunday, May 14, 11:00 AM, Sanctuary

Led by: John B Hedges, Music Director & Reverend Abbey Tennis

Join us for our annual Music Sunday service, where the First Unitarian Choir will perform Ralph Vaughan

Williams’ stunning Mass juxtaposed with popular music, jazz, and poetry.

For over 1000 years, musical settings of the “Ordinary of the Mass” (Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Agnus Dei) have been the bedrock of Christian worship services, though their meaning is far more broad. An atheist at the time he wrote his Mass, Ralph Vaughan Williams used the moving imagery of the Ordinary text to express the power of Mercy, Belief, Peace, and Blessing that transcend religious traditions.
