Parking Update for First Unitarian Church
Parking restored along 22nd Street, extended to Chestnut Street
We would like to thank those of our First Church family who drive to Sunday service and events for their patience and crucial feedback throughout the past several months. Despite a longstanding, 1993 arrangement with the Streets Department, a handful of members received parking tickets this summer and fall. Securing a definitive answer as to what went wrong and how to resolve the issue turned out to be a more involved process than we'd initially projected. But, at last, we have some good news!
Effective immediately, church members, friends and visitors attending worship or events on Sundays are once again welcome to park for free along the west-side of 22nd Street, from Market to Walnut streets. Additionally, we now invite you to park along Chestnut street from 22nd to 21st street!
Be sure to read and adhere to the "fine-print" below before parking and acquaint yourself with these guidelines. Thank you, again, for your patience during this period. We hope the reinstated and expanded parking allowance will make it even easier and more convenient for our motorized members and friends to join us in the days ahead.
UPDATED PARKING GUIDELINES
1) All cars must display an "Attending Church" placard to take advantage of the parking allowance. Placards can be obtained from the usher or greeters on duty shortly before Sunday service, or downloaded here.
2) The parking allowance is effective Sundays only, from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Parking outside of those allotted times exposes motorists to ticketing and penalty from the Parking Authority.
3) The parking allowance is effective only along the west-side of 22nd street between Market and Walnut, and along the north-side of Chestnut street between 22nd and 21st streets.
4) The parking allowance does not override existing handicap, passenger-loading or valet parking areas, as marked by existing signage. Take special note from Van Pelt to 21st along Chestnut.
