Hello First U!
I am so pleased to introduce myself to you all as the First Unitarian Church of Philadelphia's Student Minister for the 2012/2013 church year. As many of you know, I am a native of the Philly area and preached my very first sermon before this congregation in the summer of 2010. I'm now back in town, commuting weekly to Boston to finish the final year of my master's degree at Harvard Divinity School.
As a candidate for UU ordination, I've always been passionate about urban ministry, and interested serving congregations that reach outside their walls to build relationships with the surrounding community -- so I'm thrilled that I'll be able to work with Rev. Nate and Rev. Addae this year to develop my skills.
While I'm here with you, I'll be concentrating on developing new food justice projects with the Social Justice Ministry Team, and on work with Rev. Addae to build upon our current partnerships in the community. Later in the year you will see me preaching again, and collaborating with Rev. Nate on services once he returns from sabbatical. My position is roughly quarter-time, so you won't see me every Sunday, nor am I available for ongoing pastoral care -- but please consider me as one of your contacts within the ministry and staff team, as I'll be working closely with the congregation's leaders throughout my time here.
I look forward to meeting and getting to know each and every one of you -- and especially learning more about your vision for 1stU's work in the surrounding community! You can reach me at Lee@PhilaUU.org or by calling (215) 563-3980 ext. 305.
Best wishes for the year ahead,
