Paul Michael Vazuka was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Jean and Francis Vazuka on November 4, 1959. Paul was three years old when his father died of complications to leukemia. Jean remarried in 1970 to David Melnicoff and shortly thereafter they moved to Washington D.C. with Paul where he attend Georgetown Day School then returned to Philadelphia and graduated high school from Friend’s Select in 1977.
After high school, Paul took classes at LaSalle University where he met his first wife, Cheryl. Paul took classes at Weidner University. While he was working for a Comp USA, Paul met his wife Dawn McWilliams. Later they worked in the insurance industry, where Paul worked as an Information Technology specialist. They lived in Delaware and after their divorce Paul returned to Philadelphia, where he was a member of the First Unitarian Church an active leader in the communications and membership ministry teams.
In his early twenties his lungs collapsed twice and after many years of suffering Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, he died from a heart attack on May 11, 2012.
Paul is survived by his mother Jean; his brother Stephen; his sister in law Blanca; and his four nieces, Nicole, Cristina, Eva, and Iliana. Paul is predeceased by his father, Frank; his step-father David; and his stepbrother, John.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the First Unitarian Church of Philadelphia, 2125 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103 on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 12 noon followed by a private burial with the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Paul’s name to the American Lung Association.
